Bosses may not die quite as fast as they would with Wolfgang but your innate defense, custom weapons and sanity/life leech go a long long way at constantly replenishing stats and always keeping the edge in combat. Dont Starve together is harder, but it has so much more content. Don’t starve feels intended to be played solo and has all the dlcs which combined with the base game I would say is more content then dst. So much content, and can play with friends or randoms online. Solo Wig could almost be S Tier - very hard to die as her if you are careful and know what you are doing. DST still gets updates, has more base game content, and enemies and bosses usually have more health.

A good starting approach to troubleshooting the issue might be to generate a world with every setting at absolute "minimums", and work upward from there, slowly adding or increasing this or that until you experience stuttering or lag, at which point you'll have a fair indication of just what your PC can actually handle and what it cannot. You can play solo and even get mods that make it a more single player friendly experience. Changing the settings of the worlds you generate may help, as well. More RAM may help, if you can provide it. If it doesn't smooth out after a minute or two then it seems likely there is at least one other issue causing your laggy experience. When you switch from overworld to caves (or vice versa) your PC will have to load in the different biomes and entities, etc., and that in itself can cause (usually temporary) lag on some PCs.
We did have to make room for the Terraria collaboration by shifting around updates, but frankly - the team really needed that time to do something different for a little while, and I think it was. That doesn't mean that your PC doesn't have a bit of extra work to do. I dont know if well ever have another awesome opportunity like that, but it was an absolute blast and were thrilled everybody enjoyed it so much.
